Old Glory Wave: Handcrafted Solid Wood American Flag
This American flag isn't printed, stenciled, or stained onto a single board. It's built one strip at a time from solid maple, cherry, and walnut, then hand-carved into a sweeping, wind-blown wave that gives it real depth and movement on the wall.
Every stripe starts as an individual strip of hardwood, cut, arranged, and glued together so the light maple and rich cherry alternate perfectly across all thirteen stripes. The star field is its own build: fifty individual stars are cut into a solid walnut panel, then each one is hand-poured with white epoxy and left to cure before being sanded flush and smooth. Only once both of those pieces are glued, cured, and joined into a single flat panel does the real transformation begin. That flat panel is carved and machined into the flag's signature wave, a slow, deliberate process that shapes the rise and fall of each stripe while keeping the grain and color lines crisp and unbroken. From there it's sanded through multiple grits by hand and finished to bring out the natural warmth of the wood and protect it for years of display.
Start to finish, a single flag takes between 8 and 16 hours of hands-on shop time, not counting the separate cure time the epoxy stars need before they can be sanded and finished. It's a genuine multi-day build, not something run off a template in an afternoon, and that time shows in the finished piece: the wave feels natural, the stripes stay sharp through every curve, and the stars catch the light. Finished size is 22.5 inches wide by 11.75 inches tall, ready to hang as a statement piece in an entryway, office, or living room.
This is a handcrafted heirloom piece from a small, veteran-owned family woodworking shop, made to be handed down, not replaced. A meaningful gift for a homecoming, a retirement, a promotion, Veterans Day, the Fourth of July, or anyone who wants a flag on their wall with real craftsmanship behind it.
Materials: solid maple and cherry (stripes), solid walnut (star field) with hand-poured white epoxy stars; hand-carved wave contour.
